The Early Years

In the absorbent mind, Dr. Montessori wrote, "The most important period of life is not the age of university studies, but the first are, the period from birth to age six. For that is the time when man's intelligence itself, his greatest implement is being formed, but not only his intelligence; the full totality of his physic powers…at no other age has the child a greater need of intelligent help."

From conception to age four, the child develops 50% of his mature intelligence. From ages four to eight, he develops another 30%.

We at Owls Acre have taken the love of learning to another level of learning by using an equestrian center as an extension of experience for your child.

Life…Is a classroom!

Purpose and Goals

Owls Acre has designed its program to achieve the following goals:

  • A positive attitude toward life and learning
  • Self-confidence and independence
  • A lifelong sense of curiosity
  • A sense of order and responsibility
  • Concentration
  • Large and small muscle coordination
  • Comfort with independence

It has been my privilege to know Mona Scott professionally for 10 years. She has a vision of a better world for children and their families and has worked tirelessly to create innovated programs to meet the needs of all children. Mona's Montessori program at Owls Acres is one of the few early education programs in Fairfield County that practices inclusion for children with special needs. Mona knows that all children are children first and not defined by their disabilities.

I am most appreciative of the service offered at the Riding Academy. I have seen students gain language and motor skills at an unbelievable rate because of the experience of riding and grooming horses. In the past few years, Mona has brought her horses to our special needs school (hauling a huge riding ring) or has had us out to the riding academy at least 8 times so that our students with disabilities (2-22) could ride and benefit from the outdoor experience…
